Going to the movies should be a form of escapism. When the lights dim, so should the Real World. I should be transported into the movie. And when it is over, I should feel dazed and vaguely upset that I have been ripped from the fantasy wanting desperately to return....Going in to “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” I cynically expected a typical movie experience. But this was no ordinary movie.

As gloomy and spooky as the overall mood of the film is, it also manages to simultaneously be a clever and witty comedy and a breathtaking action/adventure film ... The cinematography is beautiful, and the CGI effects are chilling – and exhibit a marvelously dark sense of humor.

I don't admit this lightly - they tricked me out of my Fruity Pebbles. I was swept away by the effects, the cinematography, the costumes, the accents, and yes, by Kate Beckinsale. It wasn't until after the movie was over that I realized I had been swindled.
